kate beckinsale's biography
kate beckinsale was born kathryn bailey beckinsale in london an only child to stage and televesion actress judy loe, and richard beckinsale, a well-known television actor from nottingham, england who died in 1979 at the age of 31. kate was six at the time.
kate attended private school godolphin and latymer school in london for her grade and primary school education. twice when she was a teenager she won awards (w.h. smith young writers' competition) for writing of stories and poetry.
after a turbulent adolescence, kate began to take up acting. in 1991 she debuted in a tv film about world war ii called one aganst the wind. in that same year she began attending oxford university majoring in french and russian literature.
she received a big break when she was included in kenneth branagh's film adaptation of william shakespeare's much ado about nothing in 1993.
